Your daddy and I cannot believe you are 6 months old already! It seems like yesterday that we were bringing you home from the hospital and wondering how we were going to survive with 3 kids under two years old -- and two of them being newborns, no less! Well, those first few months are a blur, and you have been quite a challenge with regards to the sleep department, but this has been some of the best six months of our lives!
It took you a while to get your smile on - you were SO serious during your early life! But, during your third month, your realized how fun smiling can be! Now you are not greedy at all with your grin! It doesn't take much - seeing your daddy when he comes home from work, locking eyes with Claire first thing in the morning, or watching your goofy big brother dance around the house! I hope you never stop smiling, Baby David! You also have the most adorable giggle and belly laugh. We have heard both a lot this month, especially as you have been noticing your brother more - and boy, do you think he is hilarious!!
Currently, when it comes to sleep, we are still working on it! You usually don't have a problem falling asleep for naps or taking a couple 2-3 hr mid-day snoozes (current naps at 9am and 1pm). You also don't have a problem falling asleep at 7pm for bedtime at all. And once you're asleep, you sleep well. The biggest challenge we face with you is two-fold, David. First, you want to get up two to three times each night to nurse. And second, some nights, you don't want to go back to sleep in the middle of the night after a feeding and will take 1-2 hrs to get you back down. Not cool. Part of it is, I think you are teething. Many times, after a dose of Tylenol, you fall right to sleep, but that is a last-resort, for sure. I'm also hoping that as you are weaned from breast feeding, I will have more control of your intake, and you will get all of your calories in the daytime.
Speaking of weaning, we are doing just that. I am doing it gradually with a goal of by the 7 month mark, you are on all formula. I think that weaning you is going to be harder on you than your sister, as you seem to use nursing as comfort at night time. But, luckily, you already take a bottle from me (and have ever since you were a week old), and you have no problem with a bottle of all formula. Right now, in addition to your before-bed bottle, which we have been giving you for months now, our feeding around lunchtime has also been replaced with a bottle.
This month, we moved your meal of oatmeal from dinner to breakfast. We also introduced vegetables, which you've been eating at dinner time. Over Easter weekend, we started with sweet potatoes, which you thought were delicious! You've also had peas and squash, and seem to like both. We will do a few fruits next - apples, pears, and bananas - so that we can add them in to your oatmeal for breakfast. Mommy really enjoys making food for you and your sister, just as she did for Lucas.
Developmentally, this was a BIG month! You are now a combat crawler! I've already shared the videos, but you are so much like your big brother with resepect to your curiosity and your physical abilities as you both started combat crawling right around 6 months old! You have also been pressing up on all-fours which is real-crawling territory! Slow down, kiddo! It's a good thing our house is somewhat baby-proofed. Before we know it, you will be easily navigating a room and then the first floor! You are still a bit wobbly with your sit, but you are getting there, and will be sitting on your own very soon!
Another big change this month is that your disposition is so much more sunnier than it was in the months past! Yay! You finally wake up happy in the morning! Also, you don't seem to need to be held as much as you did last month. Much of it must have to do with the fact that you enjoy
David - you have brought such a light to our family. Your smile is contagious, your laughs are music to our ears, and your snuggles always leave me wanting more. I find myself missing you when you are asleep (but, PLEASE, don't take that as an invitation to NEVER sleep through the night! haha!). You are so very beautiful, with your dark hair and eyes, and amazing eye lashes! Your daddy and I love you with all of our being! Happy 1/2 year, Baby Boy!
Love,
Mommy
