Dearest Claire, (You are 6 months old!)

My Dearest Claire,

Wow! How did the last 6 months go so quickly!? It seems like you were born, and then we blinked, and now it's half a year later! That makes you sound so old - "half a year"! Well, Baby Girl, you sure have kept us on our toes - and we wouldn't want it any other way!

Oh, Claire-bear, you smiley little thing, you! Everything makes you beam - you are a social butterfly for sure! And not only do you have the most awesome smile, but you usually kick your legs and flail your arms in excitement whenever you flash that grin! So, to say that you smile with your whole body would be a very true statement!

On the other end of that smile is your outrageous wail! Can we say 'drama queen'?! Wow, what a high pitched sound! There is no mistaking when you are upset, at least!

You continue to be a wonderful sleeper at night, thought we still don't exactly know the true extent of this statement. What we do know is that you generally go to sleep without a fight at 7pm as long as you have your paci. And almost every time David wakes up, you continue to sleep. I toy every.single.time I see you in that peaceful slumber to let you be, but I'm usually sleep deprived already, and do not want to chance heading back to bed only to awaken to you an hour or two later. So, alas, you are woken when David wakes. Our pediatrician challenged me to let you sleep, but, I can't seem to let myself do that just yet. Of course, there is the rare occasion where you are the first to wake.

As for daytime sleep - you are pretty terrible at napping most days. 45 minutes, Missy, is not a real nap! (As I type this, I am trying to keep you occupied on the floor with toys so I can finally get to this post 2 weeks after your 6 month birthday! Both of your brothers are napping nicely upstairs, and you want to hang with mommy after your cat nap!). You are still a fan of 3 naps - 9am, 1pm, and then again around 4pm if your 1pm was a bust!

You are still a pretty wobbly sitter, but you are getting there. Month 7 will be your month to sit, for sure. You are not crawling yet, but can roll wherever you want to go. Not sure we can call you mobile yet, but you definitely don't remain in the same place I put you on the floor.

We are currently weaning you from nursing. I am doing it gradually with a goal of by the 7 month mark, you are on all formula.  I don't think you are going to care either way. You suck down a bottle in half the time as your brother, and don't mind formula at all. Right now, in addition to your before-bed bottle, which we have been giving you for months now, our feeding around lunchtime has also been replaced with a bottle.

This month, we moved your meal of oatmeal from dinner to breakfast. We also introduced vegetables, which you've been eating at dinner time. Over Easter weekend, we started with sweet potatoes, which you thought were fabulous! You've also had peas and squash, and seem to like both. We will do a few fruits next - apples, pears, and bananas - so that we can add them in to your oatmeal for breakfast. Mommy really enjoys making food for you and your brother, just as she did for Lucas.

We still don't know who you look like, but you've been said to resemble Mommy, Daddy, Lucas, Uncle Craig, and Daddy's cousin, Allison. You are a mixture of our families for sure, but regardless of who you look like, you are just gorgeous, Claire - and you become more beautiful by the day! You are going to be our long-legged, tall, blue-eyed, light-haired little girl!

Claire-baby, you are such a sweet little angel. We feel so blessed to be able to round out our family with a little girl. We can't wait to see how your personality continues to emerge, and we hope that you have a thirst for life! You are so loved and so cherished, and we hope you always know that. Your daddy and I love you with all of our being! Happy 1/2 year, Baby Girl!

Love,
Mommy
