Lucas is 15 months!

Where has the time gone? Life is just moving way too fast! And Lucas is just growing and developing by leaps and bounds!

What our little munchkin is up to this month…

~ We have a little flirt on our hands. Grocery or Target shopping is a hoot! Lucas loves his vantage point at the front of the shopping cart, and will not pass one person by without waving and saying either “hi” or “bye-bye”. It’s amazing how many people won’t say hi back, but equally amazing is how many reactions and waves he DOES get. One time, an older gentleman told Lucas, “Did you know you just made my day?!”.

~ Lucas currently says 19 words and 8 animal sounds. Just recently he strung together two words for the first time and started saying “doe-doe bye-bye” which means doggie bye-bye. (Darby is on vacation in Rochester with Grandma and Grandpa while we sell our house, so we always tell him that Darby is at Grandma’s when he asks for her).

~ Pointing to body parts has improved. Lucas now knows head, belly, hair, nose, tongue, and foot.

~ He will shake his pointer finger while saying “no, no, no, no”. Definitely picked this up from Miss Cathie at daycare. It’s hilarious!

~ Running, running, running! This is how much of Lucas’ time is spent.

~ L has finally taken to giving hugs. It’s just the sweetest squeeze ever. He even loves to give hugs to his little friends at daycare to say good-bye at the end of the day and especially loves to give them to his best bud, Luca. Toddler hugs are just too cute.

~ Lucas loves, loves, LOVES to read books. Lately, he actually prefers to sit on the floor alone with a book to having Eric or I read one to him. His favorite right now is this pop-up book called “The Silly Sheep”. It sits on the bottom shelf of his bookshelf. He knows exactly which one it is and he calls it the “BAA” book. He’s also quite messy with his books and loves to pull them off of his shelves. After L gets put in his crib for bedtime, I usually have to spend a few minutes putting away all of the books that are scattered throughout his room.

~ Lucas constantly wants to learn. "This" is a word that is used very often. He will point to something and say "this" wanting to know what it is.

~ He also uses "this" to ask for something. If you point to the object (usually there are other objects around) and you chose the right thing, he will nod his head for "yes" or smile and reach his arms out for it. If you failed and it is not what he wants, he will shake his head "no." It's nice to be able to communicate in this way - less frustration on both ours and Lucas' part when he is trying to ask for something.

~ Lucas has such an opinion and is very strong-willed. This child knows what he wants and if he doesn't get it, then the tears start to fly as if his whole world has come crashing in. Luckily, he is easily redirected and the crying usually only lasts a minute or so.

Lucas, as usual, is such a joy. He really is just such a good little boy and just lights up our life with his smile and laughter. Eric and I love showing him the world, watching him explore, and helping him learn. It is so amazing to watch his little brain work! We are so very blessed!

This is probably the last of the monthly updates, but we will be back for semi-annual updates – 18 months, 2 years, etc. Our year is about to get crazy, which is exactly what it has been over the last few months already. More to come…

(Sorry for the funky clarity in some of the pictures. I'm still getting used to my new camera upgrade. There are so many buttons and new features, that I'm still learning!)
