Lucas is 3 months old!

Lucas – you are a quarter of a year old! My how fast time goes and how quickly you are growing!

You are still exclusively breastfed, and are thriving! At the end of your third month, you were 13 lbs, 12 oz and 24” long! You continue to nurse every 2-3 hours, as you decide is necessary. Your Daddy gives you a bottle of breastmilk about 2x per week so we can get practice before you have to start daycare at the end of July. You don’t seem to mind a bottle and usually chow down!

Your sleep has been a little erratic for about a week this month. Bedtime is at 7:30/8ish, and you, typically, sleep uninterrupted anywhere from 8-10 hours each night. Then, after wake-up to eat, you go back to sleep for 2-4 hours. We started weaning you from your beloved swaddle earlier this month after our pediatrician thought it was time to start. You are doing very well, and most nights, you even put yourself to sleep very easily without your arms wrapped.

You smile all the time, Lucas! It’s the best sight in the world!! You always give Daddy a big smile when he comes home from work and talks to you. You love having conversations and, we think, you love hearing your own voice – which gets louder and louder every day! You are so very expressive and your facial expressions when you “talk” are just so adorable. You love to squeal and giggle! We haven’t heard a true belly laugh yet, but we’re sure that isn’t far off! Oh yes, and you LOVE to have conversations while and after you get your diaper changed – that is usually when you are the most talkative.

You have also just started grabbing at toys that are hung or placed in front of you. You LOVE your Logan the Lion Lamaze toy – he can keep your attention long periods of time! He makes a distinct “roaring” sound that you seem to like. I also think you are starting to put two and two together – if you move your arms while holding onto his rings or feet, he will make that fun sound! Grammy and Grandpa Bob bought you another Lamaze toy for Easter – Jacques the Peacock – and you seem to love his fun crinkle sounds too!

You continue to do very well with tummy time and don’t seem to get bothered by it until about 10 minutes in. Tummy-to-tummy time on our chests is probably still your favorite. You have had very good head control ever since you were born – and now you only seem to be a little bobble head when you’re tired. You haven’t rolled over from your tummy to back yet, but you kick away and can actually move yourself over a bit, so we are sure rolling isn’t too far off!

You love bath time and smile as soon as we start showering you with the little whale water cup! You kick and splash with your legs the entire time – it looks like you are having so much fun in your tub! And at the last bath I gave you, I decided to move your baby tub from the kitchen island into the bathroom tub since you splash so much and get water everywhere!! There’s less cleanup in the bathroom!

Lucas, you are so very interested in the world around you. You no longer tolerate being held in a cradle position (unless you are eating or need to be rocked!). Ever since the beginning of month 3, you will fuss if someone cradles you as you love to be sitting up and looking around. Kerrigan lent you her Bumbo seat and you look so cute sitting up in this little baby chair! No doubt, you love the view of the world it gives you. You are such a happy and alert baby, and you’re very talkative like your mom’s side of the family! You are no longer a passive observer that is still trying to transition into this world from the womb. You are learning more and more each day, and it is so amazing to watch you soak everything in and become an active participant in our life.

Sweet Baby Boy, you are such a joy and you bring smiles to our faces and laughs to our lips many times a day! Our life is so much richer with you in it and we thank God everyday for blessing us with such an incredible gift! We love you more than words can express!!

Happy Easter!

For Lucas’ first Easter, we went up to NJ to visit with the Filosa clan. On Friday evening, Grammy and Grandpa babysat Lucas while Eric and I went to Suppa’s for a date night. Though we enjoyed a lovely (unrushed!) 4-course meal, we still got home to an awake Lucas.

On Saturday, we went over to Babci and Dziadzi’s house to celebrate Easter with them, Aunt Ann, and Rob. And later that evening, Gram Rose, Uncle Gene, Aunt Debbie and Co came over to my parent’s house for dinner to celebrate my dad’s 60th Birthday! Of course, a yummy strawberry shortcake made an appearance, and then quickly disappeared too!

On Easter Sunday, Lucas was presented with two Easter baskets! The Easter Bunny brought him one with some books, a new teething toy, and a fun hat for summertime! My parents and sister gave him an adorable outfit, some books, a toy, and some cool new sunglasses! We all went to church in the morning. Lucas has been to our church many times, and is always so well behaved. He was awake for just about the entire service and loved sitting up and listening to the beautiful choir! After church, we had brunch at my parents’ house and then packed up and headed home. It was a lovely weekend trip with family!

So Much to Say!

Lucas' baby babbling is just the sweetest sound! Many mornings, now, we are woken up by his little munchkin voice "talking" instead of crying!

Random Photos

Since the last bunch of photos are mainly others holding Lucas, here are a few recent close-up shots of the little man. We can't believe how big he's getting and sometimes when Eric or I look at him, we swear he looks like a little boy! Such conflicting feelings - on one hand, we want Lucas to stay little and cuddly - our baby boy! But, on the other hand, we know there is so much to learn, and we want to see him grow and help shape him into who he will become! For now, we won't get ahead of ourselves - without further adieu - our sweet baby boy!!

We headed downtown into Philly one afternoon to visit Allison and Jon, and took Lucas to Jake's Sandwich Board for lunch.

Of course, we can't forget to include our other "child", Darby, in some shots! Poor pretty girl isn't the main subject of our photos anymore. This was taken on a walk at Swarthmore that I managed on my own with both the stroller and the dog! Quite a feat! It was a gorgeous day, though, so we couldn't let it go to waste.

Visit to NJ

Lucas, Darby, and I made the 2 hour trip to NJ on March 30 to spend a few days with Grammie, Grandpa Bob, and Auntie Michele. My parents, so graciously, hosted so many family and friends over to their house over the 3 days that we visited. Instead of having one big open house, everyone came when their schedules permitted, whether it be after work on Wednesday, Friday afternoon, or for Saturday morning breakfast. That way, all of Lucas' fans could have more individualized cuddle time with him. I was really bad at taking photos of everyone with Lucas, because I knew that my mom was taking a bunch with her camera.

We also had a great time visiting Babci and Dziadzi's house - this was Dziadzi's first time meeting Lucas and you could tell that he was thrilled to see his first great grandchild!

One of my oldest friends, Lucia, had a baby girl named Giovanna about 2 weeks after Lucas was born. We all met up at Lucia's mom's house after visiting with Babci and Dziadzi. It was so fun to get the babies together! Giovanna is such a little peanut compared to Lucas, and as you can see, she is all girl in her pink outfit and matching flower headband!! Plus, we got to hang out with Stefanie, Gianfranco, and Lucia's oldest son, Mario.
