David is 9 months old!

Three-quarters of a year old! Sounds so old! What a fun age! New milestones occur what seems like each day, new teeth, new foods, new tricks! Lots of smiles and laughs and fun all around!

This month David and Claire both started to hold their own bottles which is quite helpful when tandem bottle-feeding. Sometimes one will get lazy and refuse to hold it by their self or will need help finishing, but feedings have become much, much easier for one person to handle. They are still on 4 bottles a day.

Both babies also respond to their names by turning their head when called. They will also imitate sounds that we make and, David especially, loves to play the game where he makes a sound and then someone responds with the same sound and it goes back and forth and on and on. We and he get a kick out of it every time!

Claire and David have also really started to respond to each other more and more this month.  It's not surprising any more to find them "playing" together, laughing together, smiling at each other, crawling around next to each other or "talking" to each other in their cribs.  Oh and then there's the grabbing at each other and stealing toys from each other too :)

They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lucas! They are always up in his grill, wanting to play with his toys, and wanting to see what snack he is eating.  Their biggest smiles and heartiest laughs are produced when Lucas is talking to and playing with them.

At the beginning of month 9, we were spoon feeding purées at every meal and throwing in finger foods here and there. By the end of month 9, we have basically moved to all table foods with some spoon-fed vegetables here and there. And if the mood strikes, Claire and David will let me feed them Greek yogurt, but that doesn't happen all the time. For breakfast, they eat toast, waffles, pancakes, bananas and other fruits. Lunch and dinner are usually almond butter or hummus on deli flats, turkey, chicken breast, cheese burgers or hamburgers, pasta, beans, cheese, and fruit and veggie chunks. It's nice to finally give them most of what we eat so I'm not playing the part of short-order cook. David and Claire both pay close attention to what I am putting on the other's tray, so it is usually equal and the same items so no meltdowns occur (which will happen if one is given something that the other is not!). They both can also drink water out of a sipping cup now. Next up, using a straw. We went straight to straw cups with Lucas (he actually never used a tilt-back sippy cup until he was almost 2!), but I'm not sure why I switched things around with the twins.

David. At his 9-month pediatrician visit, David weighed 18lb 8oz, and is 29.75" tall. That puts him in 25th percentile for weight and 90th percentile height. Long and lean!

Dare we rejoice that David has been sleeping solidly through the night?! Hallelujah! Finally! It's been going on for a good month now, so it should be a sure thing! He's asleep by 7pm and we don't hear him until about 6am. Once in a while, he will wake, cry and find his paci and fall back to sleep without adult intervention. If he doesn't quiet down within a coupleof minutes, we know he needs help. David did finally get a tooth this month, so if he did wake, it was most likely due to his tooth.

It was a big milestone month for David! He began pulling up on furniture and in his crib, climbing stairs, squatting to pick up a toy while holding on with the other hand. Also can't forget cruising the furniture, letting go while he stands and learning how to fall down!

Socially, David is waving, clapping and doing "So Big". He loves playing peek-a-boo! He will lift his bib up and over his eyes, and waits for someone to ask, "where is David?" Then, he'll pull the bib back quickly and come out from behind it with a huge smile on his face. Verbally, he babbles in his own language and we regularly hear the sounds "Dada", "Mama", "Yaya", and "Lala".  Though no words with intention yet.

Two mobile babies can make one quite exhausted by the end of the day, but it's the best kind of exhaustion to have. Love these two cuties and love how much joy and happiness they contribute to our family!! Happy 9 months, my littles!
