Three-quarters of a year old! Sounds so old! What a fun age! New milestones occur what seems like each day, new teeth, new foods, new tricks! Lots of smiles and laughs and fun all around!
This month David and Claire both started to hold their own bottles which is quite helpful when tandem bottle-feeding. Sometimes one will get lazy and refuse to hold it by their self or will need help finishing, but feedings have become much, much easier for one person to handle. They are still on 4 bottles a day.
Both babies also respond to their names by turning their head when called. They will also imitate sounds that we make and, David especially, loves to play the game where he makes a sound and then someone responds with the same sound and it goes back and forth and on and on. We and he get a kick out of it every time!
Claire and David have also really started to respond to each other more and more this month. It's not surprising any more to find them "playing" together, laughing together, smiling at each other, crawling around next to each other or "talking" to each other in their cribs. Oh and then there's the grabbing at each other and stealing toys from each other too :)
They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lucas! They are always up in his grill, wanting to play with his toys, and wanting to see what snack he is eating. Their biggest smiles and heartiest laughs are produced when Lucas is talking to and playing with them.
At the beginning of month 9, we were spoon feeding purées at every meal and throwing in finger foods here and there. By the end of month 9, we have basically moved to all table foods with some spoon-fed vegetables here and there. And if the mood strikes, Claire and David will let me feed them Greek yogurt, but that doesn't happen all the time. For breakfast, they eat toast, waffles, pancakes, bananas and other fruits. Lunch and dinner are usually almond butter or hummus on deli flats, turkey, chicken breast, cheese burgers or hamburgers, pasta, beans, cheese, and fruit and veggie chunks. It's nice to finally give them most of what we eat so I'm not playing the part of short-order cook. David and Claire both pay close attention to what I am putting on the other's tray, so it is usually equal and the same items so no meltdowns occur (which will happen if one is given something that the other is not!). They both can also drink water out of a sipping cup now. Next up, using a straw. We went straight to straw cups with Lucas (he actually never used a tilt-back sippy cup until he was almost 2!), but I'm not sure why I switched things around with the twins.
Claire. At her 9-month well visit, it was found that she is caching up to David. She weighs 18lbs even (35th percentile) and is the same height as David, 29.75", which puts her at the 100th percentile for height (that's what it says on the summary sheet we got from the doc - I didn't even know that was possible!)! Her new nickname is "Stretch"! Again, long and lean.
This month Claire can add crawling to her baby book! She can also crawl into a sit, and she is showing interest in pulling up to a stand. She can stand while holding on to furniture and she will pull to her knees which makes us think pulling up on her own isn't too far off!
Claire can wave and LOVES to show us that she is "So Big"! She continues to be super social and smiley, and she will flash her signature open-mouth grin that now sports 4-teeth (2 more bottom teeth appeared this month!), at anyone who looks at her. "Dada" is still her favorite sound and it seems like she says it more when Eric is around, so, maybe a first word? Still hard to tell for sure. We have heard a "Mama" here and there, but mostly general babble comes out of her mouth.
She still sports semi-male-pattern-baldness, but her hair is coming in quite nicely. Claire can now wear little hair clips and that usually takes the guess-work away when people are trying to figure out if we have twin boys or a girl and a boy :)
Two mobile babies can make one quite exhausted by the end of the day, but it's the best kind of exhaustion to have. Love these two cuties and love how much joy and happiness they contribute to our family!! Happy 9 months, my littles!
