Lucas is 8 months old!

Wow! Is our baby boy really 8 months old!? So much has happened this month! And, I must say, that this has been the most fun month yet! Lucas’ development has just exploded and he is actually starting to look and act like a little boy! So many milestones this month! He has started to wave at 7.5 months, and will now wave at Darby, mommy, daddy, his teachers at daycare, the ceiling fan, his froggy humidifier, his musical table – basically just about anything! All of his grandparents have even gotten a wave on Skype! How special is that!!!??

Lucas also turns the pages in his books when we read together each day. It’s pretty hilarious! Sometimes, we don’t even get through all of the words on a page or I find myself reading very quickly before those little chubby hands are moving on to the next page!! We are just so thrilled that he LOVES to be read to – current favorite books being “Bear Snores On”, “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”, and anything by Sandra Boynton. When we are sitting in his rocker and I am trying to feed him, Lucas will actually try to roll over and climb over me to his night table to grab the books that are on there because he is just so excited to read!

Other milestones include giving kisses (or really open mouth slobbers! Sometimes, with tongue! haha!) and lifting his arms to be picked up when we reach for him.

Lucas’ combat crawl has gotten lightening fast! Gone are the days when we can leave him on the floor in his room and step out for even a minute! He also loves to be chased if we crawl behind him and thinks it's hilarious! He has shown us that he can crawl up on all fours, but will usually flop right down to his belly since he is so much quicker that way! Lucas also pulled-up in his crib for the first time this month - we witnessed it on the video monitor! Busted! Pulling-up is his newest past-time. For a new puller-upper, falling over is easier than getting up, so we have to watch him all.the.time!

At daycare, he has been dubbed “Road Runner” because he can navigate the entire room in about 2 minutes! He definitely keeps his teachers on their toes, and two days last week when I picked him up, he was either in his crib or the exersaucer for “his own safety”! haha! The other 3 times, he was either playing on the floor sitting nicely, being held and talked to, or playing with his friends, so he’s not always the wild child – only 40% of the time! We also found out that he is the “loud mouth” and talks all the time! Many times at pick-up before I even make it to the door of the baby room, I can hear him from out in the hallway. We love his little voice and it is so cute to hear him “talking” to the other babies and his teachers – he always sounds so happy, which is music to our ears!

At 8 months old, Lucas already has 7 teeth with the 8th on it's way in any day now! If you have been following along, you may have already done the math in your head, and, yes, you calculated correctly – 8 teeth in 6 weeks! Yowch! It’s been drool-city over here! Hopefully, now that he has all of his incisors, he will get a little relief before his molars and canines make their way in. This month, Lucas also started eating yogurt, chicken, pastina (little stars pasta), puffs and other finger foods like cut up bananas, nectarine, and whole wheat pita bread. He really enjoys feeding himself.

Darby has recently become Lucas's most favorite friend. He loves "talking" to her and reaching out to pet her. He kicks his legs in excitement whenever they are reunited and the biggest smile appears on his face! She loves to lick his hands and feet while he's in his high chair, and he equally loves being licked - he just laughs and laughs! Darby has quickly learned that laying underneath his high chair is THE place to be - especially since the occasional puff or piece of banana (her favorite!) falls on the floor! We are so happy that Lucas is going to get to grow up with a dog - she can teach him so many lessons on companionship, trust, and responsibility. Eric and I know that they are going to be the best of friends!

What a joy you are, Lucas William! We can tell that these next few months are going to be very tiring, but a whole lot of fun!!
